/ SWITCHING TO US

How to point your existing domain to us

You already own your domain (like yoursalon.com). Moving to a new website doesn’t change that — we just point the domain at your new site. Here’s exactly how it works, and why it’s painless.

First: you keep your domain

Your domain is yours. We never take ownership of it. “Pointing” it simply tells the internet to load your new site instead of the old one. Nothing is transferred away from you, and it’s fully reversible.

What you’ll need

  • Your login for wherever you bought the domain (your “registrar” — often GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google/Squarespace, or Wix).
  • About 10 minutes — or just hand it to us (see below).

The easy way (recommended): we handle it

On every project we point the domain for you. You either share access to your registrar or add us as a delegate, and we make the change and confirm it’s live with a secure padlock (SSL). You don’t have to touch any settings.

The DIY way (if you’d rather do it yourself)

  1. 1Log into your domain registrar.
  2. 2Find the DNS settings (sometimes called “DNS Management,” “Nameservers,” or “Manage DNS”).
  3. 3Replace the records with the ones we give you — usually either two nameservers, or an “A record” pointing to our server plus a “www” record.
  4. 4Save. Changes take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours to spread across the internet (this is called “propagation”).
  5. 5We confirm the new site is live and the SSL padlock is active.

Your email keeps working

If you have email on your domain (like [email protected]), that’s handled by separate records (MX). We preserve them, so your email keeps flowing — we don’t touch it unless you ask us to.

One thing to watch

Don’t cancel your old website plan until the domain is pointed at the new site and it’s confirmed live — otherwise your site could briefly go dark. See the cancellation guide for the safe order of operations.

Bottom line

You keep your domain, your email keeps working, and we do the technical part. Most clients never touch a DNS setting.

We handle all of this for you.

Switching to Krause Web Design means we point your domain, preserve your email, and tell you exactly when it’s safe to cancel your old plan. You don’t touch a setting.
